The Story

The heart of this story centers around the theme of love. Both God's love for His creation (humanity) and love between the two main characters, Cassie and Noah.

Cassie has to overcome her perfectionist tendencies and trust God with the most vulnerable piece of her heart, love. Her character is forced to surrender control over to the Lord as she finds herself falling for the most unexpected man...a man she would have NEVER chosen for her future, but can't help but love, Noah.

Noah is the prodigal son. He wanders away from the church and from God, building up a calloused heart due to childhood trauma at the hands of Christians. He is forced to serve community service at the church he gets caught stealing from, and finds himself falling in love with the children's ministry director, Cassie. He also finds himself feeling the penetrating love of God for the first time.

Logline

A troubled young man goes to great lengths to help his friend, taking the full blame for a crime, stealing from a church. But to his surprise he is met with mercy instead of harsh punishment. While serving out his community service to the church, he feels the love of Jesus for the first time. He also finds himself falling in love with the children’s ministry director, Cassie. Will she trust God that this could be the man for her? Or will she allow his stained past to keep her heart guarded, still relying on her own check list, waiting for that perfect husband.

Cassie

Kelsi Umeko

Past

Cassies biological dad left her birth mom when he found out she was pregnant with Cassie. Cassie's birth mom hated her for this and at age 9, the state caught on that Cassie's mom was unfit to be her parent and she was placed into the foster system. Cassie was adopted by the loving couple, Steve and Diane White. This was the first time that Cassie felt truly loved. They raised her in the church and Cassie grew in her love for the Lord as she experienced that God was the only one able to heal her old childhood wounds.

Present

Cassie serves as the children’s ministry director at her church, The Vine. She has agreed to host their first ever vacation bible school. Cassie, being the perfectionist that she is, has put an immense amount of pressure on herself to make sure that everything is perfect for VBS. Cassie has a very hard time trusting God and letting go when it comes to control, mostly seen in her unwritten checklists.

When Sandra, the art director for vacation bible school, has to suddenly move due to her husband's job, Cassie is left to design all the art for VBS. A skill, Cassie severely lacks. She is also given the task of having to oversee Noah’s community service. hours.

Noah

Curtis McGann

Past:

Noah was raised going to church, however his experience was extremely painful. His mom and dad were both heavily involved in his childhood church, and they were big tithers. Noah's dad had a secret drinking problem. When Noah was 11 , his dad started beating him when he would get drunk. Both his mom and dad forced Noah to lie about his dad's alcoholism as well as his abuse. Noah gained the courage to finally tell their church pastor, but to his disappointment, the pastor threatened Noah that “lying is a sin and he better stop before something worse happens.”

At age 16, Noah ran away from home, and moved in his with childhood best friend, Roman. They were forced into a hard life, making poor choices out of desperation and pure necessity.

Present:

Noah is a brilliant artist, but he can’t seem to catch a break making money for his art. He hustles at night trying to sell his art, and during the day he tries to make cash by doing odds and ends jobs, like mowing peoples' lawns.

Noah crashes on Roman's couch, still living together after all these years, but Roman has a son and a soon to be wife and baby on the way, so Noah feels the need to try to get his own spot.

Hard times strike again, and Noah and Roman are faced with an eviction notice. They decide to steal a golden cross from The Vine Church. They get caught, and Noah takes the full blame for the crime, since he doesn’t have much to lose.

Noah is given community service instead of felony charges, and while serving he falls in love with Cassie, and experiences God's love for him for the first time.

Roman

Raymond Power

Past

Roman grew up with a single mom who worked 2 jobs to make ends meet. She was hardly around for Roman. When Roman was 16 years old, his mom met a wealthy boyfriend who offered her financial stability, the only caveat was that he didn't want Roman, only her. She left Roman alone at their apartment and moved across country to be with her boyfriend. Leaving Roman to fend for himself.

Noah and him moved in together and hustled and stole to get by. When they were 17 years old, Roman and Noah got caught, but Roman took the full blame for the crime. He served jail time and has a criminal record.

Present:

Roman works at a warehouse job, making minimum wage with terrible benefits. He tries to get promoted any time there is an opening, but due to his criminal record, he stays at the bottom.

Roman has a 9 year old son, Jack, who he is raising single handedly. Jack's mom is deep into drugs and wants nothing to do with Roman or Jack.  Roman has been with his current girlfriend, Vanessa, for a couple years and she is expecting their first child. He plans to marry her, but wants to offer financial stability first.

Mood Board/Music

We will play with both color and music to showcase the drastic differences between Cassie and Noahs worlds. Noah's world will be more dark and moody, with rap beats played as the score to his scenes.

Cassies world will be more romantic, and light, with lots of beautiful natural rays of sunlight filling the scenes. The score behind her scenes will be more classical christian music. Acoustic guitar, piano, instrumental.

As the film progresses, and Noah becomes more immersed in Cassies world, music will shift when they are together to be a blend of both worlds. Modern Christian with mix of christian rap.
